Sellers' Valuation Expectations Too High in Over Half of Southern European Deal Processes
In over half of Southern European M&A transactions (53%), advisors report that sellers' valuation expectations are too high, a gap that averages 26% and breaks the deal in 38% of those cases, the highest deal-breaking rate of any Dealsuite region to date. At the same time, sentiment is strengthening, with 92% of advisors now optimistic about H2-2026. These are key findings from the latest edition of the Dealsuite Southern Europe M&A Monitor, based on input from 119 M&A advisory firms active in the Southern European mid-market (companies with revenues between €1 million and €200 million).

The M&A market in Central and Eastern Europe continued its expansion in the second half of 2024, with increased deal activity and improving valuations. The number of sell-side transactions rose by 5%, while buy-side transactions increased by 3%, reflecting the region's ongoing economic stabilization and investor confidence. Additionally, the proportion of transactions exceeding €10 million rose from 32% in H1-2024 to 41% in H2-2024, surpassing the European average.
